A Gentler Approach to Chiropractic Adjustments
In addition to more traditional chiropractic adjustments that involve the “snaps” and “pops,” we also use some gentle techniques like Flexion/Distraction. These “low force” techniques can be just as effective (if not more so) at correcting the spine and decreasing symptoms.
Many patients prefer Flexion/Distraction technique if they want a lighter touch or the idea of “cracking” the joints is unnerving. The doctor may opt for this technique if the patient has an acute disc injury, osteoporosis, prior spinal surgery in the area, or other conditions where more traditional techniques are contraindicated.
At Falkner Family Chiropractic, the patients that love this technique include:
- sciatica patients
- pregnant patients
- patients with osteopenia/osteoporosis or advanced arthritis
- weight lifters
- fibromyalgia patients
Most patients say it feels like a great stretch for the back that really allows them to “decompress.”
Flexion/Distraction works by:
- Increasing the disc height between vertebrae
- Lowering disc pressue (good for disc bulges/herniations)
- Increased space for the spinal nerves
- Improved vertebral joint movement/function
- Improved nerve function in area
Falkner Family Chiropractic is one of the few offices in the Clarkston area offering Flexion/Distraction technique. Call the office at 248-620-8910 to see if this technique would benefit you!
